Still living out a horse’s dream, these horses are working on filling out, growing up and waiting on their prospective partner. We do not usually start the Arabians or halves until age 4; what’s pretty great is that their brains retain a lot of what we’ve worked on a couple of years ago and refreshing and moving forward is an easy transition. Groundwork refreshers may also happen this year in preparation for riding at age four or later–research shows that the spine doesn’t fully mature until the age of 6 with horses of any breed, so the later riding happens, the better the longevity of the horse.
